musings from JO

Lockdown day (xx)

-

How are you feeling today? If you are anything like me this time is morphing into a weird new ‘normal’.

Normal to not see or hug my daughter who is on the front line in London being stoic, normal to not see my 83 mum who lives alone in Cornwall and having her first wobble, normal that I just couldn’t watch Little Women right now because I miss my sisters too much, normal to worry about lovely friends who live alone, or far away, normal that their phone calls are the new going out, normal that I can work Zoom no problem, normal to know that my new normal is not your new normal and being compassionate.

Normal to be grateful to be allowed an hour out of my home, normal to crave fish fingers, arctic roll, marmite soldiers instead of kimchi and roasted cauliflower - yeah I know! Normal to be ecstatic when you bump into a friend when you are in the queue at the Co-Op, normal to have no tolerance for the radio or the news, normal that all those books you wanted to read hold no pleasure, normal that you are devouring Jilly Cooper instead, normal to love your crocs and realise you haven't brushed your hair or looked in a mirror today.

Normal that even writing this is making me cry, normal that my dogs are ruling our house (actually that is IS normal), normal that Thursdays at 8 hold a new significance, normal that your neighbours are just bloody great and you never knew it, normal that celebrity is a scientist not a singer, normal that flour is the new gold and the thought of fish and chips on the beach better than any Michelin.

Normal that the car is obsolete and cyclists rule, normal that you feel guilty for having a garden, normal that feeling guilty is the new normal, normal that the thought of going back to normal feels scary, normal that thinking about what is normal is a complete head fuck!

what is your new normal?

Writing down how you feel is so cathartic, which leads me to the Seven Lemons challenge for next week...

Challenge 2 -  BRAIN DUMP

All you will need is a notebook and a pen. I’m sure you have found a hoard when you were tidying out your desk….if not go wild and treat yourself. Nothing beats a new notebook or is that just me.

  1. Every morning while you sip your Lemon Water just start to jot down what’s in your head, do not think about it or hold back, this is your private notebook.

  2. Write down one thing that you want to do that day that brings you joy

  3. There are no rules - just write one word or a page, it’s up to you.

Love Jo x
